New to Dreadsylvania?

The first thing to need to do is collect 9 ghost pencils. These can be used to permanently allow you to enter all noncombat adventures in the dungeon. This will be important for doing runs which get you better loot. 10 players can get a ghost pencil per instance - each player can only get one per instance (Village -> Square -> Schoolhouse -> Desk). Once you have a ghost pencil, adventure until you hit the noncombat that you want to mark permanent. An option to use the ghost pencil becomes available with one in your inventory.

You also probably want to download DrEvi1's RaidManager, which is an excellent script for keeping track of what has been done in a dungeon instance.

The Hard Mode 7 Loot Instance Strategy

This is the instance strategy that we believe is most efficient. There are easier ones for lower skilled players, but they give one less loot piece, and there are harder modes, but they are quite a bit harder. In other words, this is not the only way to run an instance, but we think it fits the need of most players. You will get 1 outfit loot piece from each boss, 1 hard mode loot piece for each boss, and an extra hard mode loot piece from the boss of your choice, plus a good number of consumables.

Get the Carriageman Drunk

In order to open up the village and the castle, someone must get the carriageman drunk by feeding him booze. This KoLmafia script can be used to pick the cheapest booze in your inventory.

Decide on Bosses & Elements

You want to banish 4 elements in each zone right away. The element left will decide what drops you get from monsters and what negative status effects those monsters hit you with. We banish based on mall prices for items.

Next you want to decide which bosses you want to fight. You must choose either Great Wolf of the Air or Falls From Sky, either Mayor Ghost or Zombie Homeowners' Association, and either The Unkillable Skeleton or Count Drunkula. You can also allow chance to pick the boss you will fight.

So, you might agree to have a stinky woods, a spooky zombie village, and a spooky vampire castle.

Getting Skills

Themachine.gif

There are a total of 15 skills obtainable from Dreadsylvania. Three skills can be obtained per instance. They may be obtained by the same player or different players. Before anyway has used the noncombat in the tower is the best time to hand out skills because once you have used the tower for something else, you cannot use it to help someone get a skill or to get one yourself, but you can use the tower again after you have been to the machine. That is why dealing with the machine early in an instance is ideal.

To get a skill:

1. Defeat either The Unkillable Skeleton or Count Drunkula in Hard Mode to obtain a skull capacitor. The capacitor is nontradable boss loot that is distributed at the end of an instance.

2. Someone must unlock the laboratory in the castle tower by buying a Dreadsylvanian skeleton key for 25 Freddy Krueggerands from the The Terrified Eagle Inn and entering the laboratory.

3. The person with the skull capacitor unlocks the machine by going to the tower noncombat in the castle, going to the laboratory, and choosing to "Approach The Machine".

4. Three players must now approach the machine (and the two not getting a skill must be different classes). The player who stands in the middle will be the one who gets the skill. What skill they get depends on the class of the players to the left and right of them. Once the middle player grabs the electrodes, they will get their new skill (which is not automatically permed).

The following skills can be obtained:

Dreadsylvania Skills
Skill Left Chamber Right Chamber Skill Cost Skill Description
Song of the North Accordion Thief Seal Clubber 100 MP 10 turns of +100% weapon damage & +50 cold damage
Song of Slowness Accordion Thief Turtle Tamer 100 MP 10 turns of +50% initiative

Setting Up the Instance

Before any adventures are taken in the combat zones, you must banish elements and monsters. For example, you may want to banish all elements except stinky in the woods, all elements except spooky in the village, and all elements except spooky in the castle.

Banishing Elements
Element Requirements Noncombat Choices
Cold Woods -> Burrows -> Cold -> Read

And if you want to fight Falls From Sky, you should banish wolves. Note that this does not yet guarantee Falls From Sky, but that step of making 100% sure you get the boss you want will be done at turn 990x3.

Gathering Loot

Once you have the zones set up, everyone can use the rest of their noncombats to get some loot either for themselves or for the clan. The following is a list of items obtainable by only one person per instance. They are easily obtained by noncombats, but because of their rarity and use in obtaining better boss drops, they should be collected every instance and put in the clan stash if tradeable. A complete list of noncombat options in table form is available on the KOL wiki. Note that certain choices must be unlocked with a Dreadsylvanian skeleton key, which can be bought at the Terrified Eagle Inn for 25 Freddy Krueggerands.

Additionally, 6 Dreadsylvanian skeleton keys are needed every instance. There is a limit of 10 uses of each freddy collection per dungeon instance.

Kill 990 monsters in each zone

Killing Dreadsylvania monsters is similar to fighting other hard monsters in KOL, but here are a few suggestions.

1. Negative status effects can either be erased by buying hot Dreadsylvanian cocoa in the mall or at the Terrified Eagle Inn or avoided by equipping Protects-Your-Junk

2. The brass Dreadsylvanian flask and the silver Dreadsylvanian flask can boost your damage for 100 turns each day. You do not need to buy the flask each day - it is reusable once per day!

3. There is a neat interaction between a negative status effect that sounds really horrible and the Unkillable Skeleton's shield. Chilled to the Bone is an effect you may get hit with when fighting cold-aligned Dreadsylvania monsters. It sounds horrible, but the damage done by your Skeleton shield is 100 damage +10 damage for every +1 MP cost of the skill you are using. That means you can do massive amounts of passive damage!

4. The Rain-Doh green lantern is incredibly powerful for spell casters because it double the damage you do.

5. Your equipment should be your best +spell damage gear for mysticality classes and your best +damage gear for muscle and moxie classes. Some MP regeneration and +HP helps too. Once you can handle the monsters, you can switch some gear out for some of the +Dreadsylvania items gear.

6. The best familiars are the wild hare for extra turns per day and the Mechanical Songbird for +items in Dreadsylvania.

7. If have trouble in one zone, try another. Bugbears can be tough because they have a damage cap. Skeletons can be tough because they have so much HP.

Stage 990x3

Once the boss is up, noncombats can no longer be accessed, so you want everyone to stop killing monsters once a zone has reached 990 to keep these open while the instance gets finalized.

1. Unless there were more than 100 cases of getting beaten up by monsters, you just need to banish one element in one zone that has not already been banished to push kisses up to 6 and get 3x loot from one boss.

2. Check to see how many monsters of each type were killed. Monster ratios in each zone start randomly at 60:40. Each banish reduces the percentage by 20. So if you banished vampires and the ratio of vampires to skeletons you see at 990 killed is approximately 50:50, you must banish vampires again to fight Unkillable Skeleton. It is equally likely that you will find the ratio to be approximately 75:25 after one banish, in which case you do not need to banish again to fight Unkillable Skeleton.

3. Make sure the machine has been used for clannies to obtain skills.

4. Make sure expensive noncombat loot has been taken. You may also want to announce last call for any remaining Freddy Krueggerand noncombats. You can also sell these to players in /trade.

5. Figure out who will kill the bosses. A boss killer may want access to an unused noncombat in your instance to make the item required to beat a bioss on hard mode, which is why you want to do this before all bosses are up.

6. Kill the remaining 30 monsters. Note that they will be substantially harder at 6 kisses.
