Introduction

This guide is for people who want to get the Byte sword. The sword is made by collecting 8 flickering pixels. It can be gotten from 1 jar, but for those collecting monster manual factoids, you will need to use 3 jars and can therefore collect a few flickering pixels each time.

Things to consider:

1. The order that you do the quest matters because boss 1 drops and item that lets you kill boss 2, etc.

2. Each zone works as follows:

  • 1 noncombat turn, you get a negative effects that sets your base stats very low for 50 turns (you must have it active to adventure there)
  • 9 combats that are pretty easy. Some monsters may have some resistance, but they do not have much HP.
  • 1 scheduled noncombat test. Each test has 2 levels. If you can pass the second level, a 3rd option will appear that will give you 1 flickering pixel. If you cannot pass the second test, there will be only 2 options: pass and skip. If you mess up, you can skip and try again in 10 turns. Once you pass, you cannot try for the flickering pixel again.
  • 9 more combats
  • the same scheduled noncombat test. This time, if you got the flickering pixel already, you need to still pass the lesser test to move on.
  • 9 more combats
  • a new scheduled noncombat test. It works the same way as the last, but has a new requirement.
  • 9 more combats
  • the same scheduled noncombat test. This time, if you got the flickering pixel already, you need to still pass the lesser test to move on.
  • 9 more combats
  • the boss.

3. Getting the sword takes 200 turns in one day if you do not mess up. You can mess up and it just means it will take an extra 10 turns each time to retry the test you failed.

4. You will want to be at a high level when doing this quest. 200 of each stat is not essential, but it means you can equip some items that are going to be very helpful.

5. Although not all of these things are essential, you may want to have (and be able to equip) the following:

  • an exotic parrot for elemental resistance
  • a disembodied hand
  • Hodgman's disgusting technicolor overcoat
  • 3 lawn darts
  • battered old top-hat / nurse's hat
  • sea salt scrubs
  • hobo dungarees
  • red wagon
  • Ultracolor™ shirt
  • pixel power cells to fuel the skills needed to kill bosses. These drop while adventuring but make sure you have 1-2 before each boss after Anger Man.
